Lectionary Readings Isaiah 40: 1-11, Psalm 85: 1-2, 8-13, 2 Peter 3: 8-15a, Mark 1: 1-8, John 1: 6-8, 19-28

How can we prepare our heart, soul, and mind during the Advent season. What needs to be done to help us start focussing on Jesus? What ‘seeds’ might God be planting in our lives?

The Bible readings are filled with uplifting words for what is to come – God’s amazing plan for peace, restoration, love, forgiveness, power, and comfort. John the Baptist speaks of the one who is coming – the one greater than him, the one who will baptise with the Holy Spirit.

Can you hear the voice of one crying out in the wilderness:
Make way! Level the valleys! Straighten the paths!
Prepare the way for the Prince of Peace!

As we gather in this season of Advent,
we have begun to listen and clear away what needs clearing.

And after the clearing comes the replanting.
God is with us in this moment and every moment.

Whatever you have brought with you to worship today – God hears, and God sees and loves you.
Whatever you are feeling today – God hears and sees and loves you.
Whatever you can offer today – God hears and sees and loves you.

So welcome to this time where peace can be found.

God of peace, surround us today with your spirit of calm and quiet.
We come bringing all of who we are before you.
We come longing for your peace which passes all understanding.
In the chaos and noise, speak to us today.

This week we light the Candle of Peace
