Easter Day

Here again we have choices amongst readings. Why might we choose a particular pathway through them: our personal preference, the needs of those who may be present, prayerful thoughtful contemplation? My pathway is highlighted.

Let me tell you an idle tale.

God creates new heavens and a new earth in the midst of the ordinary places and activities of life. The patterns may look the same, but the underlying characteristics, attitudes and motivations are new.

Let me tell you an idle tale.

I shall live and recount the deeds of the Lord whose steadfast love endures forever. Here where we are working with God to build community lining up the stones of our lives with the foundation stone the builders rejected. Here where every day is a new day made by the Lord. Here where God rescues us and corrects us.

Let me tell you an idle tale.

I will remember the story I have been told. All days will be the first day of the week. On this first day of the week I will look for the living among the dead because we all need to die if we hope for resurrection. I might be terrified and hide my face, but with your help I will remember. I will encounter those who disbelieve my idle tale, but occasionally someone will be spurred to action and amazement.

Let me tell you an idle tale.

I will tell the story of Jesus living and working, announcing the kingdom of God. Of Jesus hanging on a tree, raised by God, appearing, eating and drinking and talking. I will stand in the line of witnesses from traditions and writings. I will eat and drink and talk. I will tell the story, sometimes using words.

You may not believe me.

You might.
