Welcome to the Uniting Church in Tasmania.

We are a community of people committed to being faithful followers of Jesus, ready to be part of God’s plan for the reconciliation of the whole creation.

As a presbytery of the Uniting Church our role is to enable congregations to be thriving and vibrant expressions of the Church’s life, “worshipping, witnessing and serving as fellowships of the Spirit in Christ”, “encouraging congregations to strengthen one another’s faith, to bear one another’s burdens, and to fulfil their high calling in Christ Jesus” (Basis of Union, paragraph 15(a,c)). As one part of the Synod of VicTas, our role is to provide general oversight, direction and administation for the life and mission of the Church (Basis of Union, paragraph 15(d)).

Bronwyn Howard

Bronwyn and Kate have general responsibility for the day to day management of the Tasmanian office, answering all the enquiries that arise and coordinating communications including the monthly newsletter Uniting Tasmania, maintaining the Presbytery Directory and Presbytery records and data, supporting the three Committees of the Presbytery and organising Presbytery meetings, and other office duties.

Rohan Pryor

  • Synod Liaison Minister (SLM) and Presbytery Minister for Pastoral Care (PM-PC)

Rohan represents the Synod in Tasmania and is the coordinating point of contact between the Synod and congregations in Tasmania.  The role of Synod Liaison Minister (SLM) includes leading the Presbytery Ministry Team and working collaboratively with the Councils of the Church to grow healthy communities of faith and to develop and form leaders for a missional church. This includes strategic planning in consultation with the Presbytery Standing Committee; coaching and mentoring communities of faith, leaders and potential leaders; and pastoral care of ministry workers in the Uniting Church in Tasmania with the Pastoral Relations Committee. The SLM also resources the Uniting Church in Tasmania by providing the principal link between the Synod offices in Tasmania and Victoria, managing the Synod and Presbytery office based at Pilgrim Launceston, and encouraging engagement with the Synod’s Vision and Mission Principles.

Rohan has tertiary qualifications in Computer Science, Theology and Adult Education, and enjoys new adventures with the family and walking the dog, as well as movies, back-country skiing and motorbike riding.

Hoon You (Rev)Rev Hoon You

  • Presbytery Minister – Mission Development

Hoon is based in Launceston and facilitates and encourages effective mission on the part of congregations and church members. Hoon assists congregations to develop and implement mission plans, and resources and supports mission networks across Tasmania. Hoon works closely with the Resource and Development Committee and also promotes national and world mission.

Denise Savage (Rev Deacon)

  • Presbytery Minister – Leadership Formation

Denise is based in Hobart, works 3.5 days a week with congregations and ministry workers to equip church leaders with skills for mission and ministry to enable new ways of being church. This includes working with those applying for specified ministries and oversight of continuing education and supervision arrangements and working with lay leaders or those exploring what it means to be in leadership in the church present and future.

Lucia Fitzgerald

  • Synod Property and Development Manager (Tas.)

Lucia is based in Hobart, works 3 days a week and oversees property development projects and advises on property matters including the maintenance, lease, sale and purchase of properties. Lucia is the first point of contact for anything relating to Uniting Church property in Tasmania. Lucia also liaises with the Synod Property Services and Legal teams.
