Is 43:1-7

Ps 29

Acts 8:14-17

Lk 3:15-17, 21-22

What is good news?

Is it good news that God is like a frightening thunder storm – thundering, flashing, shaking, breaking? It is good news that God is more than we make God to be.

Is it good news that we need to pass through floods and fires, that other people and other nations are given up for us, that we were scattered? It is good news that God is at least with us as the vicissitudes of life swirl around us.

Is it good news that we will be baptized with fire, that we will be amongst the turmoil of the threshing floor, that by speaking the truth we run the risk of imprisonment and death? It is good news that the baptism by John was almost incidental to the relational work of God.

Is it good news that we have to go to the ones we do not like, and help them draw into closer relationship with us? It is good news that God goes before us and that there is a role for us to play in the drama of God’s story.

What is good news for you?
