The longest bible reading in some lectionary years has the shortest verse.

 “Jesus wept!” 

He had no need for tears. He knew what was in his power to do, and, was going to do it all along. He was always going to put life back into Lazarus’s lifeless body.

But before he does this, moved by the grief of his friends Mary and Martha, he cries! Here dispels one of the monumental myths in the municipality of men! Tears are not a sign of weakness! 

Jesus is moved.

There is the sincerest love and empathy in those tears. 

There is the power of resurrection!

I know now that I do not shed a single tear that is ignored, diminished or discounted.

Because Jesus is my friend too.
